Gel Candle Making - Tips and Hints

Date Added: January 02, 2009 04:49:25 AM

You can often find candle-making kits that make creating gel candles simple and quick, which will allow you more time to decorate the candles.

Melting the Gel

Making a gel candle can quickly turn into a disaster when you don't make sure that the temperature of the gel is right. For most gel kits, the temperature should not reach above 200 degrees Fahrenheit, or else the product will quickly become cloudy. Once you have the gel melted, you can begin making your decorative candle.

Making a get candle is simple, but you need to make sure that you have all of your supplies ready before you begin melting the product. Once the gel has reached 200 degrees, it will have the same consistency of syrup, and should be poured into the containers that you have prepared within ten minutes or so, before it begins to cool again.

Preparing the Container

Making a gel candle can be as creative as you want it to be. You can add scents to the gel after it has melted, but before you pour it into the container that you plan on using. You will also need to prepare the wick before you pour the gel into the container. All you need to do is cut the wick to the correct size, and then use some hot glue to anchor it to the bottom of the container.

Adding Decorations

One of the best things about gel candles is that you can add small decorations to the candle holder you are using, and as long as the holder is clear, when the flame is lit, your decorations will begin to glow. To add small glass, metal, rock or shell decorations, all you need to do is simply dip the decorations in the melted gel, and stick them to the sides of the jar that you will be using.

You can also use wax decorations or glitter in the gel-candle process. The glitter will need to be mixed in with the melted gel before you pour it into the container, while the wax decoration will simply need to be placed in the jar before you pour the melted gel in.
